How to get started on remodeling your bathroom
You've read some sales brochures on bathrooms remodeling and you might even have paid a visit to a bathrooms showroom to see what is on offer. In fact you've probably been round to them all and had a great time trying out toilets, bidets, showers and bathtubs. Some people like to test a bathtub to see how comfortable it is to sleep in, just in case they find themselves without a bed for the night. If you do try out the bathtubs or showers then be sure to remove your shoes first to avoid damage. At this point you are probably spoilt for choice and you're finding it hard to decide what it is you want in your new bathroom. I know because I've been there. There is just so much to choose from and after a while it all looks the same. In the back of your mind there is something nagging at you, telling you that you had better make the right choice because you will be stuck with it for a long time. People don't tend to remodel their bathrooms very often. You need a bathroom remodeling idea to get you started.
Make sure that you are equipped to make some drawings of your new bathroom design. You can download some free graph paper from Bathroom Remodeling Ideas - Free Graph Paper to help you out.
Make a bathroom Accessory list
When you have decided on the large fixed items like the bath, the shower cubicle, ceramic tiling, the sink and toilet, you will want to take a look at some of smaller items and make up a bathroom accessory list. This list will include all the smaller items that you are going to need like soap holders, mirrors, toilet roll holders etc. It's a good idea to make a list at this point because you will want to make sure that everything matches your bathroom suite. Don't rely on the same styles being available in six months or a year's time because you might be disappointed when you find that they are unobtainable.
Split the bathroom accessory list to make it easier
You might find it helpful to divide your list into two, a bathroom shower accessory list and a bathroom accessory and shower curtain list. This basically separates accessories for the shower from all the rest. Of course if you go for a shower cubicle then you won't need a shower curtain. Splitting the accessory list like this helps because you can take each one by itself and concentrate on those items alone.
The bathroom shower accessory list
First take the bathroom shower accessory list and imagine yourself taking a shower. You should be able to imagine all the little accessories that you are going to need. They will include necessities like a soap holder and rack for shampoo, conditioner, sponges etc. You might also start thinking about such luxuries as a waterproof radio or mp3 player and any other ideas you might have picked up while touring the bathroom showrooms.
The bathroom accessory and shower curtain list
When you have the shower accessory list sorted you can turn your attention to the more general bathroom accessory and shower curtain list. Again you can imagine yourself using the bathroom but this time you should think about all the different activities that you perform in the room. Take each activity like brushing teeth, washing, using the toilet etc. one at a time, and imagine yourself in the situation. As you visualize the situation you should be able to see the bathroom accessories that you will need. While you are brushing your teeth you will need a toothbrush holder or a cradle for your electric toothbrush. You will also need a toilet roll holder and somewhere to put bottles of deodorant, spare toothpaste and the like.
Don't forget to include a power point if you use an electric toothbrush or shaver and of course you mustn't forget the toilet cleaning brush. Get one to match the bathroom furniture; it will blend in much better.
What about small bathrooms?
If you have a very small bathroom and you are about to give up on your bathroom remodeling project because you can't see any way that you can get more use from it then take a look at this idea for remodeling a small bathroom. This idea allowed me to add a shower cubicle to my tiny little bathroom that seemingly had no room to fit one in. It's amazing what can be done with a little creative thinking.
